Fireworks to go off to commemorate Hung Kings in Phu Tho

A ritual of the Hung Kings Temple Festival

NDO – The northern province of Phu Tho is scheduled to set off high-range fireworks on April 20 evening as part of the activities to pay tribute to the Hung Kings, the nation’s legendary founders.

The 15-minute pyrotechnic display will take place at the Van Lang Park in the provincial capital city of Viet Tri, immediately after an art programme giving praise to the ancestral land of Vietnam.

Earlier on April 18, a boat race will be held at a lake within Van Lang Park while a competition to make banh chung and banh day – the two traditional dishes offered to the Hung Kings – will take place at the temple dedicated to Vietnam’s legendary founders.

Other activities to honour the Hung Kings will include a volleyball tournament from April 18-21 at the provincial gymnasium, xoan singing performances at local temples in Viet Tri, street music programmes and an exhibition featuring ornamental plants.

According to the organisers, measures will be put in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19 as Phu Tho is expected to welcome large numbers of pilgrims from throughout the country, all of whom are advised to adhere to the Ministry of Health’s safety guidelines.

The main ritual at the Hung Kings Temple Festival takes place on the 10th day of the third lunar month, which this year falls on April 21.
