NDO – Throughout May, historical sites in the northern mountainous province of Dien Bien will bring meaningful experiences to visitors to help them understand more about the sacrifices of the army forces and people that made historic Dien Bien Phu Victory on May 7, 1954.

Visitors to Dien Bien should not ignore the following meaningful attractions.

Historic Dien Bien Phu Victory Museum

Located at Street 1, Muong Thanh Ward, Dien Bien Phu City, the museum was built in 1984, on the occasion of 30th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory.

The museum has five display areas with 274 artefacts and 122 photos divided into many themes, highlighting the historic victory with bright examples of gallantry.

Put in D1 Hill in the centre of Dien Bien Phu City, the statue cluster consists of the tallest, largest and heaviest bronze statues in Vietnam.

The Statue has become the pride of local people in Dien Bien Province.

A1 Hill

A1 Hill, located in Muong Thanh Ward, Dien Bien Phu City, is considered the “throat” protecting the central area and the basement of General De Catries.

Today, visiting A1 Hill, visitors can join several practical activities such as cooking rice with ancient cookers, pushing basket-bikes to carry necessities, and listening stories about the Dien Bien Phu campaign.

A1 Hill Martyrs Cemetery

Located a few hundred metres from A1 Hill, the A1 Martyrs Cemetery was built in 1958, becoming the resting place of 644 graves of martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the Dien Bien Phu campaign, most of them unnamed.

De Castries’ command tunnel

The French General De Castries’ command tunnel was built by French colonialists in Dien Bien District. It was dubbed as the most solid tunnel in Indochina at that time.

The Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command

The Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command was located in the primeval forest in Muong Phang Commune, Dien Bien District.

Here, General – Commander-in-Chief Vo Nguyen Giap and the Command of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign issued decisive attack instructions and orders, especially the general attack command for the entire front in the morning of May 7, 1954.
