Hanoi tube house gets Australian architecture award for best interiors
A five-storied house in Hanoi has won the House of the Year award for the Best Interiors category given by Australian architecture website Habitus Living.
CH House, 220-sq-meter, in Ha Dong District, has been honored for its interior design. Earlier it was named in a list of 50 best houses of 2020 by renowned architecture website Archdaily.
The house was built for a three-generation family that wanted a haven from the city’s noise and pollution and sustain close links in this age of smartphones and television.
The common space, including the living room, library, dining room, and kitchen, spreads over three levels, connecting the occupants and their activities. Trees provide a cool and calm ambiance inside the house.
Trees also help soften the metal and concrete details. There are grape and starfruit trees across the house, maintained through an automatic watering system.
The facade is a combination of perforated concrete blocks and steel-framed glass, which allow natural light in.
According to its architects, the aim of the house design was to achieve spatial harmony, maintain family traditions, respond to the local climate, and provide a contemporary lifestyle tempered by the benefits of a living tradition.
It is really a clever exercise in balancing privacy and community within a total floor space of just 220 sq meters, Habitus Living commented.

The House Of The Year awards short-listed 20 designs before announcing three winners on December 3, 2020.
