NDO – The Spring Flower Festival 2020 officially opened on December 27 in Van Giang district, Hung Yen province.

This is the second time the district has organised the Spring Flower Festival, to promote the potential and strength of the largest flower growing region in the Northern region.

The festival attracted the participation of hundreds of gardeners, flower and ornamental plant businesses in Xuan Quan, Phung Cong communes and Van Giang town. The booths have been decorated and arranged attractively with a variety of products such as hanging baskets, bonsai and colorful flowers.

The Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Committee of Xuan Quan commune, Le Qui Don, said Xuan Quan commune has 178 hectares out of 231 hectares of arable land which specialize in growing flowers, ornamental plants and a variety of trees. The harvesting of products ismainly concentrated in three seasons: Spring, Summer and Fall-Winter. The profit earned on one hectare of cultivation of ornamental flowers is between VND1 to 1.5 billion per year.

In 2020, although badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the commune’s bonsai flower production still earned over VND 130 billion, creating stable jobs for thousands of workers both inside and outside the commune, with incomes of VND 5-7 million per month, shared Don.

Van Giang district currently has more than 1,000 hectares specializing in growing ornamental plants, focusing on three specialized cultivation areas and forming eight craft villages specializing in producing ornamental plants, attracting more than 5,000 households and creating jobs for over 13,000 workers. The total income from growing ornamental plants each year in the district is upwards of VND 800 billion.

This is an opportunity for visitors to shop for beautiful, unique and exotic ornamental flowers. At the same time, the participants also have a chance to exchange and share experiences with artisans from the craft villages about the secrets of caring for ornamental plants and flowers and this elegant hobby of the Vietnamese people as Tet approaches.

The festival takes place from now until January 21, 2021.
